Coach Brad "The Professor" Simon

Coach Brad "The Professor" Simon has a versatile and impressive background. He is originally from Long Island New York where he grew up playing competitive hockey. He was named a Vytra Suffolk County Long Island All-Star in 1999 and went on to play ACHA college hockey at the University of Maryland where he was named captain his junior and senior years and led his team to two ACCHL championships. In 2014, Coach Simon was inducted into the ACC Hockey League Hall of Fame.

Academically, Coach Simon earned his doctorate of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree in 2007. Since then he went on to complete a residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He continued his academic development by acquiring a Masters of Science degree and a certificate in medical education. From 2012-2015, he was an assistant professor at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in St. Kitts, West Indies where he became an avid waterman (e.g., snorkeling and surfing). In 2015, he moved back to the United States to College Station, Texas as a professor at Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. During his tenure he was chief of the anesthesiology section and has published over 30 peer-reviewed articles and several book chapters pertaining to anesthesia and pain management. He is a renowned national and international speaker in his area of expertise. Currently, he works as an anesthesia specialist in Katy, Texas and remains an adjunct professor at Texas A&M University following his tenure achievement.

Since being back in Texas, Coach Simon has dedicated a lot of his time to the hockey community where he has coached for the Spirit Ice Arena club team, the Houston Wild, Texas Outlaws, and Texas A&M University Men's Ice Hockey team. He has an impressive record with several tournament victories with the Texas Outlaws Hockey Club (2021-2023) and a TCHC championship and a first Western Regionals victory in history (2022) with Texas A&M University.

 

More recently, he has focused his efforts on skating development for the novice to elite player and has conducted traditional & elite clinics in the Houston and College Station areas. He continues to perfect his teaching methods as a life-long student and looks forward to expanding his instruction off the ice as well. He has used not only his impressive hockey experiences, but also his academic career to teach students about leadership, dedication, and hard work both on and off the ice. Coach Simon stated "being a leader and captain for my university team has taught me a lot about being a leader and positive role model in my career. The skills I learned to be a dedicated athlete has translated to all areas of my life."
